Change
Happy New Year!
It is said that every day is a new beginning, and every new year gives us a chance to be a ‘better’ version of ourselves in some respect. People want to be healthier, cleaner, leaner and generally remove their inner demons. This is a good mindset to have, being able to love and respect one’s body enough to want to be the best you can be. Many simply give up their resolution after only a week, or maybe a month or two…If you have made a resolution this year, I would take this opportunity to ask…
Why bother?
What’s so different about this year compared to last year? Or the year before? If you’re serious about quitting smoking/drinking, or travelling the world, then why wait to make a ‘new year’s resolution’?
The Babylonians were the first to make resolutions 4000 years ago, whom are said to have made promises to the gods in order to give them good fortune for the year, usually to get out of debt. Do you think they gave up after a month?
A new year is not a reset button. Calendars are not absolute, and days and months of the year can change. One year is 365.25 revolutions of the Earth, days are man-made, so what does the position of the Earth relative to Sun have to do with you deciding to be a better person? I believe that we have this power within us EVERY day, of EVERY month of EVERY year. If you want to make the change, then don’t wait!
Seize the day.
I asked you, if you’ve made a new resolution, why bother? To succeed in making positive changes to our lives, we must take this very seriously. Ask yourself:
What do I want to change?
Why do I want to change it?
How am I going to achieve it?
We should all try to improve ourselves on a daily basis, making mistakes along the way but learning from them. Give yourself a chance, set your main goal, then give yourself plenty of intermediate targets that will help you succeed. Sit yourself down, and make a plan of action, but you should never let time get the better of you. If you don’t use the time, you lose the time, and it will never come back.
Don’t be afraid to fail, hold your head up and face it, I know you can do it!
You are the personification of change, make it a good one.
